Oh, This Life

Mommy, we have no more coffee, no sugar, not even rice for cooking!” complained my aunt’s daughter. No more supplies? Well, that’s not the only thing they run out of. There were times when their pantry was stocked but their LPG tank was empty, or they had no water to boil for drinking. Once, my aunt came home to total darkness because they failed to pay their electric bill. They had to contend with buzzing mosquitoes, the heat of the day and their nostrils blackened by soot because of the kerosene lamps they used at night until the bill was paid.
